Katoomba Athletics runs competition every Saturday from September to March subject to weather and ground conditions. The season pauses for 1 or 2 weeks over Christmas and we try not to hold competition on the same day as Little Athletics Zone and Region meets.

Each Saturday starts with an athlete warm-up at about 8:20am and we aim to start our first events at 8:30am. We operate a 3 week revolving program that offers athletes 2 track and 2 field activities for each age group each week, with the option for a 3rd activity on some weeks for select age groups.  We have also developed an alternative program that caters for days where the Pitt Park field and track are wet but not closed.

We started offering this new style of program in 2012 with great results and we find that the 2 track and 2 field events over 2 hours is very popular with athletes and families. With the affiliation with Athletics NSW in 2021, our program integrates track and field programs for senior athletes into our Saturday programs to allow registered parents to compete and to promote the sports to all ages.

The program and age groupings are based on registration numbers as at 5th October and are subject to change at anytime by the Committee. The events are based on the Little Athletics NSW and Athletics NSW Event Specifications in the relevant Rules of Competition.  These are available at the LANSW and ANSW websites.
